The BlixtFS app for MacOS

A native BlixtFS app for MacOS is in development. The app mounts buckets directly in Finder without Docker. It requires MacOS 26 or later and will be distributed through the Mac App Store. Until it is available, use Docker as described below.

Running the server on a Mac with Docker

Install Docker Desktop and follow Docker. Two Mac-specific points:

• Publish ports; don’t use host networking. On Docker Desktop, --network host binds inside Docker’s virtual machine, where the Mac can’t reach it.
• Leave out port 445 if File Sharing is on. MacOS’s own SMB server already uses it. Use NFS instead, which is the recommended protocol on MacOS anyway.

Mounting on MacOS

From Terminal:

mkdir -p ~/blixt
sudo mount -t nfs -o vers=4,noresvport localhost:/ ~/blixt

noresvport is needed for mounts started by a user rather than by the system or root user.

From Finder, choose Go › Connect to Server (⌘K) and enter nfs://localhost/ or smb://localhost/bfs.
