Short definitions of the terms used in these docs.
- Bucket spec
- A string such as
gs://my-bucket:readonly,lazynaming a bucket, its provider and how it is served. See Buckets. - Config server
- The service that holds the deployment’s configuration and tells every other server which buckets exist and which peer owns what.
- Directory marker
- A zero-byte object whose key ends in
/, recording that a directory exists. - Event log
- An optional feature that writes a bucket’s change notifications into the bucket itself, so any number of deployments can read them with storage credentials only.
- File server
- The service that holds file metadata and serves reads and writes to the protocol gateways.
- Fsck: File System Checker
- A consistency check comparing the metadata index with the bucket. See Consistency checks.
- Index
- The in-memory storage mechanism for file and directory metadata.
- Lazy bucket
- A bucket served before it is fully indexed; each directory is listed on first access.
- Notifier
- An optional single-replica service that relays a bucket’s change notifications into the event log.
- Read-only bucket
- A bucket BlixtFS will never write to in any way. See Read-only buckets.
- Updater
- The service that receives change notifications and applies them to the index.
